If you look up the definition of vision, you learn it’s commonly used as a noun or a verb. I prefer verbs. I’ve learned the power of action. Of visioning.
I’ve been creating vision boards for over a decade. It started out as a birthday activity with friends. Throw a little wine in the mix and it’s a party. We had never done it before and didn’t expect anything from it except a little fun. We ended up having some really great conversations about things in our lives we never gave much thought to – like what we really wanted. Taking time to pause and really think about how you want to live your life can start to give clarity to how you want to live each day.
We started a tradition with the vision board parties. The next year we reflected on those first boards and realized many things had manifested even though we barely paid attention to the board after we made them. So what would happen if we did? What if we were actually intentional?
Over the years we got deeper into visioning. Learning to reflect on our lives as we lived them throughout the year. Really beginning to understand the power of intention. Through this process, I started seeing where I was keeping myself small. Where I was afraid to dream too big. I learned more about my “good enough” pattern and that action is just as important as dreaming. You have to do your part in your life. Dreaming isn’t enough. You have to be an active participant in your life or others will shape it for you. This means having a clear vision of the life you want to live and action steps to make it a reality – without the consideration of what everyone else thinks you should do.

Life Work
Create a vision board. Before you begin, think about your life. What is important to you? Why is it important? This is a good time to reflect on beliefs and patterns. What is the vision you have for yourself 5 years from now? Allow yourself to dream big. Put it somewhere visible where you can be reminded of and reflect on your life vision. Use the board to inspire the action steps to take to help you achieve the life you want.
